More About Shungite
Shungite is said to be one of the 'go to' stones for electromagnetic field protection (EMF), for cleansing and detoxing, as well as being a healing and emotional booster. Estimated to be 2 billion years old, it is known to be one of the strongest mineral healers, and is most closely associated with the root or base chakra. Shungite is said to aid in giving you a deeper insight into life, to help focus on true desires and harmonise you with your surroundings.
Shungite can be used in various ways:
- Place the stone next to an electronic devices such as your phone, or tv to help soak up any electromagnetic energy
- Wear the bracelet for electromagnetic field protection (EMF), and help keep the body in balance
- Place on the root chakra, or any part of the body that feels imbalanced, to bring this back into alignment
- Meditate with Shungite in each hand to balance the left and right sides of the body, help in relieving stress and reduce anxiety.
Please note, that it is normal for shungite (particularly when unpolished) when handled to leave a black shungite powder residue in your hands.
In its natural form, Shungite is usually divided into two types: Elite Shungite (Carbon Content 98%), and Black Shungite (Zazhoginsky, Carbon Content 30%).
Elite Shungite is nearly impossible to use to make many items from, as it is incredibly fragile. Typically it is used to purify water, and sometimes pendants can be made from it. It tends to look like sparkling black crystals.
All of our Shungite products are made with Black Shungite, of at least 30% Carbon Content (unless stated otherwise). Shungite can be found elsewhere mixed with resin, or gypsum to create various shapes, however in these instances the Shungite is no longer considered as ‘natural’ as it is not a solid stone.
Why Isn't Noble Shungite Used for Jewellery?
Shungite is a naturally occurring carbon, 'Noble' (or Elite) Shungite is 98%+ pure Carbon and contains naturally occurring molecules called Buckminsterfullerene. It would be impossible to create any form of jewellery from Noble Shungite, as it is too unstable. If you were to attempt to cut and polish Noble Shungite, it would shatter into millions of microscopic particles.
To overcome this problem, a lower grade of Shungite is used in jewellery making, which still contains a degree of Carbon within its chemical compound, but far less than Noble Shungite. The downside of using this lower grade of Shungite is that it can be quite flakey. If you rub (for example) Shungite beads or tumbled stones, a layer of Carbon can sometimes come away from the main stone, revealing a deposit of Silicon, which is shiny and silvery in colour. Silicon can account for up to 60% of the chemical composition of Shungite.
For example these Shungite beaded bracelets contain 30.24% carbon content.
