Nippon Kodo’s Scentsual Fresh Matcha incense is an uplifting green fragrance made from pure plant sourced ingredients.
When you burn one of these incense sticks, you can expect to be greeted by the aroma of a freshly brewed pot of green tea. It’s a scent that can be hard to successfully capture, but Nippon Kodo have got it nailed to a tee (pardon the pun). The fragrance picks up both the sweet and bitter notes typically found in a cup of green tea and it’s a subtle and delicate blend.
Thanks to the uplifting nature of this aroma, these incense sticks are ideal to burn when you want to lift your mood, at times when you need to concentrate or simply when you’d like a room to feel fresher.

How to Use: Light the tip of the incense stick until it flames. Once the tip is glowing, carefully blow out the flame. Fix into appropriate holder on a heat resistant surface.

As an avid green tea drinker and matcha lover, I was keen to try Nippon Kodo’s Fresh Green Tea incense, which promotes the idea of cherishing nature, by using pure, plant-based ingredients.
The only green tea incense that I had previously tried was from the Morning Star range, which I really like and use weekly. So, I was going into this with certain expectations, and I am pleased to say that this exceeded them! From the moment I let the first stick burn, I was pleased with the sweetness of the fragrance and immediately thought of green tea mixed with honey or matcha pancakes. I was also surprised by how fragrant it was without creating too much smoke; perfect for those living with their parents or housemates.
I find this great to use whilst meditating in the morning. I often have the problem of choosing which incense to burn at this time, which is not too strong or overpowering. But I feel this can slowly ease you into the day from the point of waking up. Obviously, before burning, make sure you are awake enough to do this safely!
The splashes of light and dark green on the packaging are really pretty, and a cute little incense holder is also included, but I like to place this on a heat-resistant dish to be extra safe. The burn time is said to be approx. 25 minutes, but I find them to last just over 30 minutes.
I love having a box of this in my incense collection and I am keen to try the other fragrances in this range. Nippon Kodo summarises the scent of The Fresh Green Tea well as ‘the perfect blend of sweet and bitter, like freshly brewed green tea’, reflecting the authentic scent of green tea leaves with an added honey-like flavour.
