A delightful pack containing three herb mini smudge sticks used often in smudging. All three are cleansing of negativity in their own ways. For full descriptions see the dictionary definitions further down the page.
As a quick overview, sage is the classic cleanser of energies that are not our own leaving readiness for spiritual activites. Mugwort does similar but has an extra dream-like quality. Cedar can reach a physical depth the other two don't in terms of cleansing, but not so much in attracting new energies. An exciting mixture of the three I feel! We hope you enjoy them...
About Sage
Sage, which cleanses and disperses negative energies, is sometimes called the 'ear opener' because it opens up our inner ears, allowing us to become more in tune with the sacredness of the world around us. Sage can be used before meditation, prayer or ceremony or any time you wish to clear your aura. It can also be burnt to cleanse your house, and is frequently used in Feng Shui for space clearing.
About Mugwort
Mugwort (Artemesia Vulgaris) loves to grow in desolate and devastated places. And because of this ability is often seen to symbolise hope. It grows in localised places in the UK such as East Anglia and has long been used by healers. It is common to the over grazed lands of Western USA. Mugwort grows in scraggly bushes. The leaves are a silvery white colour on the underside.
Other names include: Black Sage, Croneswort, Wormwood or Herb of St. John. When dried and burned as a smudge it is often used to help open up access to the higher realms, to stimulate dreams, vision and clairvoyant abilities. The smoke is a kind of herbal and sweet and a little bit less dense when compared to the smoke of Californian white sage. Then energy feels lighter and maybe a little more "floaty" than sage. Maybe that is part of the reason it is used by some to aid astral travel. In the Native American tradition mugwort is especially used to keep out negative and evil energies.
About Cedar
In Native American tradition the smoke of cedar is used to carry prayers to the creator. It is used to bridge the gap between heaven and earth. It also seems that the cedar tree has connections with power and the sun through many varying traditions such as Sumerian legend, Cabalistic lore and Eqyptian mythology. It is often associated with breaking the misuse of power or powerful forces that may be having a negative influence. This does connect further with Native American tradition where the burning of Cedar is used to help banish nightmares and also to release heavy emotional energies such as depression.
Packaging: These are sealed in a small plastic bag
More About Juniper Ridge
Juniper Ridge started as a company at a farmers market at Berkeley, California in 1998. And everything they make comes from the mountains or the deserts of western USA. They are obsessed with natural aromatics and also obsessed with the preservation of the wilderness. All of their aromatics and herbs come from the wild and are always sustainably and responsibly harvested. They donate 10% of their profits to defending western wildernesses.
They never kill the plants they harvest. They instead prune larger shrubs and trees that respond well to pruning. They often revist the same plants as previous years to check up on them. For the sages they always trim the clusters at the green stem, above the woody section. Harvesting this way means two or three new clusters will appear the next year where you harvested one.
