Morning Star Gardenia Incense
The fragrance of gardenia is obtained from flowers on the gardenia evergreen flowering shrub. Although the flowers are often known for their strong and heady scent, the Morning Star Gardenia incense has a gentle fragrance that has notes of aromatic floral sweetness.
Morning Star has been a consistent worldwide best selling incense for Nippon Kodo for over 30 years. The Morning Star range has many different aromas and each packet comes with a very small ceramic tile (as can be seen in the photo), in which a stick can be supported while burning. These are useful if you are not concerned about the surface the sticks are burning on.
- Available in a box of 50 sticks, or box of 200
- Each Box Includes a Small Ceramic Incense Holder
- Burn Time Per Stick is Approximately 30 Minutes
- Each Stick is Roughly 12cm in Length
- Country of Origin is Vietnam (Made by Nippon Kodo's factory based in Vietnam)
- Suitable for Vegans
How to Use: Light the tip of the incense stick until it flames. Once the tip is glowing, carefully blow out the flame. Fix into appropriate holder on a heat resistant surface.
More About Nippon Kodo Incense
The Japanese incense company, Nippon Kodo, was founded over four centuries ago and originally began by producing high quality incense for the Emperor of Japan. The company has continued to thrive ever since, now accounting for more than 50% of the entire incense industry in Japan. The company have a great philosophy about the importance of celebrating incense and recognise that, although many people simply love the ability of incense to fragrance a room, for others, their use comes down to spiritual and religious traditions. In fact, Nippon Kodo say that, through the production of their traditional Japanese incense they aim to, ‘cherish the ancient traditions and values’. The ingredients of Nippon Kodo incense are all high quality and are sourced from around the world. Experts help locate and harvest the rare aromatic woods, natural gums, resins and other ingredients used to make their incense. Once acquired, the ingredients are processed by hand, and by machine, in their eight factories in Japan and Hong Kong.
More About Japanese Incense
Japanese incense (speaking in general terms) is refined, pure, light smoke and rich in natural ingredients such as sandalwood. They don't usually have the thin wooden stick centre that is often found in Indian and other incense sticks. They are normally pure incense right the way through the stick. They are often designed with meditation in mind. Due to the high quality manufacturing processes the incense goes through they can be a little bit more expensive than other incense on the market.

Staff Review by Brett Almond
I start this review of Gardenia with an open mind as I have no idea what to expect or actually what Gardenia is. So at this point someone is turning to their partner saying, “Oh, that Brett at Holisticshop doesn’t even know what Gardenia is!”
Let’s see what’s going on…
At first it smells kind of fresh, with some sweetness in the background, and a punch of energy from somewhere. It isn’t the kind of smell I have encountered much of. I like it though. It kind of reminds me of the scent of crushed sweet green garden leaves.
Okay, I deliberately didn’t find out what Gardenia was before reviewing. So I have now looked it up. It’s flowering plant in the coffee family and can be found in parts of Asia, Australasia and Africa. Doesn’t mention Europe so that is probably why I haven’t encountered it. And I am not really a gardener. Although I have said a couple of times I would like to grown my own veggies. But I’ll probably never get round to it!
The web says gardenia is prized for the strong sweet scent of their flowers. So with that in mind I return to the incense to take another smell. Yes, I can see it is floral even more now. Not so floral as say the Lotus in the Morning Star range. Maybe this is for those who don’t want floral full on, but would rather have the “floral lite” version with some added greenery freshness. A nice refreshing incense.
