The feathers used for this double fan are of good quality and from wild turkey in the USA. Hand crafted by members of the Navajo Nation, these are stitched together at the bottom using a golden yellow tan coloured deer-skin leather (a traditional leather used for Native American Crafts) with tassels at the bottom and embellished with red and yellow beads.
We also sell a smaller single feather, these larger feathers are likely to be tail feather and are traditionally used for smudging.

You will receive a certificate of authenticity with your feather fan. These a handmade by members of the Navajo Nation (Din'eh), USA. This is a group of Navajo women, helped by their children to make deerskin medicine bags, bone and bead necklaces and feather fans.
Size of Feather Fan The overall length of the fan, not including the leather handle is roughly 28-30cm (11 - 12 inches). The leather strap at the bottom is approximately 6.5cm (2.5 inches) and 2cm in width.
More About the Symbol of the Turkey
In the Native American tradition the turkey helped to create the world, and is thought of as the give-away or earth eagle. In the give-away ceremony someone will give away perhaps all that they own for the good of the People. In the giving away of material possessions we are acknowledging who we really are - spiritual beings.
The spirit of turkey is free, and opens up the channels between us and others on a meaningful level. The turkey sacrifices itself so that others may live, and this can show us courage and faith in our present life and the next.
More About the Symbol of the Feather
Feathers are used consistently throughout Native American crafts and ceremonial tools. Birds fly inbetween the earth and the sky and as such feathers represent this connection between us as humans and Great Spirit. Of course a feather is not essential to contact God or be in tune with Spirit. It is a tool - a reminder. Feathers are like a link. You can hold them while praying, you can use a feather to brush smudge smoke over you for cleansing the aura and can have them in crafts and jewellery about you to remind you that you are always connected to Spirit.
